Transforming a much-loved community venue
We’ve supported a full refurbishment to the much-loved community venue, Bottesford Sports Hall.
Bottesford Sports Hall underwent a full refurbishment to modernise the facility and improve safety, energy efficiency, and functionality for members of the community to use. As part of the project, we were responsible for a comprehensive upgrade of the building’s electrical systems, including lighting, power distribution, emergency lighting, and fire alarm systems.
The works were carefully planned and delivered to support the refurbishment programme while ensuring compliance with current electrical and safety regulations.
Initial isolation and strip-out
At the start of the project, we safely isolated and removed the existing electrical services, including outdated lighting circuits, power supplies, fire alarm systems, and emergency lighting. This enabled the installation of new, modern electrical infrastructure throughout the building as part of the refurbishment.
Sports Hall installation
The main sports hall required new high-level lighting and safety systems suitable for a large open space. Works included the installation of:
- High-level sports hall lighting
- Combined emergency lighting luminaires
- Additional emergency lighting fittings
- Fire alarm detectors and sounders.
Due to the ceiling height, a Mobile Elevated Work Platform (MEWP) was used to safely carry out all high-level installations.
Corridor electrical systems
New lighting and electrical infrastructure was installed throughout the corridor areas, including:
- First-fix light boxes
- LED panel lighting
- Combined emergency lighting packs
- Additional emergency lighting fittings
- Power sockets
- Fire alarm detectors, sounders, and break glass call points.
These installations provide reliable lighting, clear emergency escape routes, and improved safety systems across the building.
Accessible facilities
Within the disabled WC, we installed a disabled alarm system along with new lighting to ensure the facility is accessible, safe, and compliant with modern standards.
Changing rooms
Both the male and female changing rooms received electrical upgrades as part of the refurbishment, including:
- New LED lighting
- Emergency lighting
- Extractor fans for improved ventilation
- Fire alarm detectors and sounders.
These upgrades improve comfort, safety, and reliability for sports hall users.
Main electrical distribution
A new three-phase distribution board was installed at the main electrical position. The system includes surge protection and RCD protection to ensure safe and compliant operation.
As part of the works, we also integrated the existing solar PV system and battery storage into the new distribution board, ensuring the building’s renewable energy system continued to operate effectively.
Additional electrical supplies were installed for:
- Boiler systems
- Immersion heater supplies
- Two Eddi energy diverters to optimise the use of solar-generated energy.
External lighting
New LED external luminaires were installed around the building and connected to timer controls, improving safety and visibility around the facility while maintaining energy efficiency.
Project delivery
The refurbishment works were completed over a 12-week period by a two-person engineering team. Throughout the project, work was carefully coordinated with other trades to ensure the refurbishment progressed smoothly.
Outcome
The completed electrical installation has modernised Bottesford Sports Hall, delivering:
- Energy-efficient LED lighting throughout the facility
- Improved fire alarm and life safety systems
- Reliable emergency lighting for safe evacuation routes
- Modern three-phase power distribution with surge and RCD protection
- Integration of solar and battery storage systems
- Improved external lighting and building safety.
Steve Altoft, Facilities Manager said: “The new LED lighting looks great in our Sports Hall and changing room areas, and we now have a fit-for-purpose disabled WC with an alarm system.
“The renewable energy services provided by Trent Valley Electrical Services, including solar and battery storage systems to each of our buildings, means we can power areas like our football ground much more affordably at night, by storing electricity it in the day.
“This is a community asset, and we’ve had lots of positive feedback already.”
The project has helped transform Bottesford Sports Hall into a safer, more efficient and modern facility ready to support the local community for years to come.
